About Water

Myth:
8 glasses of liquid including juice, coffee, soda, and water is just as good as 8 glasses of water.

Fact: You need at least 6-8 glasses of fresh water to meet your body's demands and optimize your fat burning, muscle gaining, and metabolism. Substituting juice, coffee, soda, etc. just isn't the same.

Home > Inspiration > Desire and Committment

These two powerful words have application to everything you do in your life. I'm of the firm belief that since we only live once we should at least live life doing the things we do to the best of our abilities. Desire is a wish or longing, according to the dictionary. What do you long for? Maybe you want to write a book or climb a mountain. Maybe your longing is to live life to the fullest, taking advantage of every experience. Whatever your desires, you'll be able to have more of them fulfilled if you live a healthier, longer life with more of your time existant as quality time. That is, time when you're at your best. What if you could slow down the clock in your own body extending the quality years of your life...you know, those years when you are full of life, vigor, excitement...when nothing can slow you down? What if I told you that you can? Guess what? Eating a healthier diet, taking the right dietary supplements to give your body what it needs, and exercising regularly not only can, but WILL extend the quality years in your life. And THAT, my friend is what this entire Getting Lean section of Bodybuilding.com is dedicated to. Not only does getting lean entail burning off excess unnecessary fat, while building up your muscle tone, it also entails improving your health, happiness, vigor and life! Did you know obesity is the third cause of preventable death? You don't even have to be obese to cut your time...just inactivity and a poor diet can take it's tole on your health.

So, whatever your lifestyle, whatever your lifes wishes, whatever it is you want to accomplish, to do...it all revolves around your desire and commitment. On the one hand, don't set goals so lofty that you can't reach them and give up, but don't not set any goals for yourself either. Give yourself direction by setting realistic goals due by a certain time and learning what you can do to reach those goals - whatever they might be. Commit to the goals you set for yourself and you will reach your success. "You are a champion in the art of living if you reach only sixty-five percent of your goals" (Maxwell Maltz). A proverb says, "Failure is the opportunity to begin again, more intelligently." Don't be afraid to make mistakes...to begin again more intelligently. You will succeed! Just remember, your resilience, desire, and commitment are the heart and sole of everything you do.

Success doesn't come easily. In fact, "the only place where success comes before work...is the dictionary" (Arthur Brisbane). Although you can't expect results overnight, your drive, motivation, and consistency in striving toward developing a leaner, more toned, more muscular physique plays the most important role in your success. When I say "success" I mean improving where you are at right now. We can all benefit ourselves from exercise and eating well. In fact, you are amazing if you can find the drive, desire, and motivation in you to get out there do what it takes to improve yourself...any kind of improvement, large or small. It's a start...and you can always get better. That is the most commendable act you can do! Take advantage of your mind, it's the most powerful organ in existance! Though many battles must be fought more than once to win them (Margaret Thatcher), it's your commitment to not giving up that will transform your dreams into reality. What's really nice about the idea, the dream, the desire to get lean and cut revolves around the fact that it's not an unrealistic goal. All of us can improve our bodies. There is always room for improvement!

Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you react. Desire and commitment are something that comes within, starting first with a clear picture of your ultimate goal in your mind. It must be a convincing picture or you won't stay motivated. The highest pinnacle in Maslow's hierarchy of human needs is self actualization - your goals, aspirations, and what you want to accomplish. Whether your goal is to lose a few inches around the waste and gain ten pounds on your bench or getting cut up for a contest, you'll find it takes your desire and commitment to get you there. Studies have found that after merely 21 days, consistent lifestyle changes have start to become "habits". If you can develop good "habits" of eating right, supplementing with the correct products, and working out then the hard part is over after just three weeks. You've just got to keep it up!

If your goal is to be a bodybuilder, the igniting your desire can be as easy as getting started. Striving toward a leaner physique will start to yield positive results. Getting good results for hard work is incredibly rewarding and dignifying. Your results in better health, increased energy, more positive self-confidence, and of coarse losing fat and building muscle, fan the flame causing it to burn more intensely inside you, driving you to succeed in your goals even more. Nothing reinforces desire and commitment better than positive results. You must layout a blueprint of what you're going to do to start to see those positive results. If you understand the principles that apply to you in nutrition, supplementation, dieting, and exercising you will find your enthusiasm so explosive you won't hardly be able to contain it. Really, desire and commitment is the foundation block of the whole getting lean structure. If these two qualities do not exist, the structure will never have the glue it needs to stick together...it will just crumble into a pile of debris. So think of it this way...you want to get lean. It's your ultimate goal to show everyone...to show yourself...to prove that you can do it! The benefits on your mind and body as a result will be too numerous to measure! So, keep your head up, keep motivated, and get a motivated partner who will push you to succeed, just as you will be pushing them to succeed. Don't slack! Keep consistent, visualizing the results of all your hard work. Hey, you'll find out it's the funnest "hard work" you've ever done! Still, keep in mind what's motivating you. Believe me, the hard work in the gym, the hard work eating right and remebering to take your supplements will pay off making you feel better, look better, energize you, and make you glow with fire and energy of youthfulness, bringing you more quality years to your life. Hell, the positive atmosphere you can create by yourself will amaze people. Your self-confidence, willingness to work, desire to succeed, and commitment to getting lean are ultimately what will propell you to see results! And as you know, those results will further you to ongoing success.

Making the commitment to change or alter your lifestyle to reach your goals is serious business! Be sure you know what you're aiming for and what it's going to take to get you there before you dive in! The bodybuilding lifestyle is one of hard work, sweat, and dedication. You must maintain a strict diet, be willing to spend at least 3 or more hours per week in the gym (oh no, not that!), and (especially if you're preparing for a competition), watch your calories at all times. The training must be worthwhile, so you've got to hit it hard and supplement right to see more impressive results quicker. You can't slack! Just remember, get yourself past the initial start-up phase and get the ball rolling. With your desire and commitment strong, the momentum you build up will carry you to new heights. If you remeber anything, remember this quote from Conrad Hilton: "To accomplish big things, I am convinced you must first dream big dreams."
