Getting Started Exercising

A Simple "How to" Guide!

By: Hank Lunton

Getting Started Exercising

Begin Exercising For Your Fitness and Health

Like most of us, you have probably been thinking about getting into an exercise regime for quite a while. Let's face it; most of us spend more time planning it than actually doing it. Exercise is crucial to our health no matter how old we are. It isn't really that hard, nor does it have to be frightening, to get started.

Before beginning any new exercise program, it is advisable to speak with your doctor who will be able to guide you on the best approach to take and which planned exercise program would be safe for you. For you would not want to work on making your body in better shape by harming something equally important.

Find Enjoyable Fitness Activities

Think about activities that you like when you start making your exercise plan. As an example, if you hate running, then by all means don't have it be part of your program. There would be no better way to guarantee failure than to take on an exercise that you already dislike. The more you like what you do, the more apt you are to continue.

hiking trailIf you like to bike or swim, then start by doing them three times a week to start with. This shouldn't be difficult, especially if it's an activity you know you like. If its winter time and you know you don't want to bike in the snow, look into gym rates. They almost always have stationary bikes, and you could work out on that until spring comes around. All things in moderation; so start slowly. Try 20 minutes on an easy trail. That doesn't sound like much, but if you've been sedentary for a while you could hurt yourself riding any longer.

Challenge Yourself

To keep it interesting and to increase your endurance, keep challenging yourself. For instance, if you've been using the same trail for a while and it's feeling easy, try a steeper or longer trail. If you've been swimming, add laps or a different stroke. Using a timer is another way of making sure you're getting a healthy workout.

To keep the exercise challenge alive, try adding new and more physical activities to the routine. More over new activities will exercise different body parts. For example if all the exercise you do is biking then your legs will definitely become strong but what about the health/toning of rest of your body? Adding weight training few times in a week to your exercise routine is important because after 20 years of age one starts to loose muscle mass.

Exercise at the Gym or at Home, Just Do It!

To exercise you do not necessarily have to go the gym. Instead you can buy a set of free weights along with a book on weight training, follow the instructions carefully and you are on the road to healthy life and body through a good training routine. You can workout almost every muscle group without the use of expensive machinery. So if you are not so comfortable with the swanky and confusing looking equipment of a gym, then please go ahead and start the exercise routine from home, but do start it.

In order to motivate yourself, you may want to find a workout buddy. If you know anyone who is also planning to start a new exercise routine, see if you can coordinate your schedules. Working out with a friend is often much more fun than doing it on your own.

Getting Started Exercising: Conclusion

The key to getting in a good exercise routine is finding something that you enjoy and starting off slowly. Don't throw yourself into working out five days a week, as with any new activity you need to ease yourself into it. Even if you just start by walking, you're doing your body a favor. Exercise is necessary for our body's to stay healthy, along with good eating habits. Again, be sure to visit your doctor before starting any new exercise program.
